36 Berks student-athletes honored at scholarship dinner

Thirty-six student-athletes from 18 Berks schools received $500 scholarships Wednesday evening during the annual Berks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame dinner at the Green Valley Chateau & Tent.

Exeter grad Dee Kantner, one of the top women’s basketball officials in the nation, was the guest speaker. She was introduced by her high school basketball coach, Jean Frey.

Kantner will be inducted into the state chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, along with former Reading High basketball player Stu Jackson, Oct. 29 at the Double Tree Hotel in Reading.
