Oley Valley’s impressive streak of playing for a district baseball championship has ended at five straight.
The second-seeded Lynx saw third-seeded Trinity score five times in the fifth inning Thursday to win its District 3 Class 3A semifinal 10-6 at Rentschler Field in Oley.
The two-time defending champion Lynx see their season end at 13-9. They beat Trinity 5-1 in last year’s championship game and Biglerville for the 2019 title. They also played in the championship game in 2016, 2017 and 2018. (There was no tournament in 2020.)
The Shamrocks (14-8) will meet the winner of Thursday’s semifinal between Berks Catholic and Lancaster Catholic in the championship game is Tuesday, site and time to be determined. The top two teams qualify for the PIAA Tournament.
Oley Valley led 3-1 after the first inning and 6-4 after four innings.
The Shamrocks knocked Oley Valley ace Luke McDonald out in the fifth inning on the way to a 9-6 lead.
Trinity advanced to the semifinals with a 5-0 win over sixth-seeded Annville-Cleona. The Shamrocks have won six straight games.
Trinity has never won a district baseball championship; it reached the title game for the first time last season.
