Justin Weller is now a Shark.
Six weeks after announcing he was leaving Penn State, the former Wilson wide receiver has accepted an offer to play at Long Island University, an FCS school which plays in the Northeast Conference.

Weller announced his decision Wednesday morning via Twitter, writing: “So happy to announce my commitment to Long Island University! I can’t thank Coach Coop, Coach JRob, Coach DJ and all the other coaches at LIU for their confidence in my ability both on and off the field.”
Weller has one year of eligibility remaining after spending the last five years at Penn State.
Long Island went 2-8 last season, 2-5 in the conference, in its first season under head coach Ron Cooper. The offensive coordinator is John Roberts.
Weller, in his Twitter post, also thanked Dean (Christopher) Bates “and all involved in academics for making this academic and professional decision so special. LIU is going to provide a unique opportunity like no other.”
Bates is interim dean of LIU’s College of Management.
Weller also received an offer from Saint Francis Feb. 10.
The 6-foot, 198-pound Weller appeared in 12 games with the Nittany Lions, nine during the 2021 season. He received Penn State’s Outstanding Run-on Award, given to the top non-scholarship player on the roster.
Weller is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. In December he received the Nittany Lion Club Academic Achievement Award, which goes to the senior with the highest grade-point average. He has earned a master’s degree in Real Estate Analysis and Development and an undergraduate degree in finance.
He is a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
He announced on Jan. 10 that he had entered the NCAA transfer portal, saying: “Thank you to everyone at Penn State. These last five years have been unforgettable. With one year of eligibility left, I have decided to enter the transfer portal.”
Weller was the leading receiver, with 43 receptions, on the 2016 Wilson team that went 12-2 and won a District 3 Class 6A championship. He earned All-Berks recognition.
