Three Wilson players named to Coaches’ Class 6A All-State squad

Wilson’s Michael Glover, Jaiden Carpenter, and EJ Brownback earned spots on the Pennsylvania Football News Class 6A Coaches Select All-State team.

Glover and Carpenter are first-team picks; Brownback is a second-team pick.

They are among 72 players on the team, which was selected in voting by coaches across the state. More than 300 coaches nominated players and took part in the voting.

The 6-2, 219-pound Glover was selected as a tight end. He was named both Outstanding Lineman and Offensive Lineman of the Year in Section 1 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League after leading Wilson to 9-3 finish and to the district semifinals.

He added full-time duty at defensive end this season and excelled there as well, with 44 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, three pass breakups, and a fumble recovery returned for TD.

On offense he averaged 16.3 yards on 35 receptions, with seven TD catches. An outstanding blocker, he moved around to point of attack in the running game; he also averaged 7.4 yards on 29 carries.

Carpenter, a 6-foot, 145-pound senior, was picked at cornerback. He was an outstanding cover corner with track speed and was named Defensive Back of the Year in Section 1. He had seven pass breakups, two interceptions, and returned a fumble for TD. He was named all-league at wide receiver after averaging 19.1 yards on team-leading 35 receptions, with team-best 11 TDs.

Brownback, a 5-11, 215-pound junior, was picked at middle linebacker. He was a vital run-stuffer on a defense that ranked No. 3 overall against the run in 37-team Lancaster-Lebanon League. Also had three interceptions, returning each for TDs.

Brownback had 117 tackles – twice as many as anyone else on the team – with a team-leading 19 tackles for loss, a team-leading four sacks and two forced fumbles. Wilson was No. 7 in the league in total defense and scoring defense.

Brownback was named MikeDragoSports.com Berks County Defensive Player of the Year.
