Cameron Small became the first Muhlenberg player to repeat as first-team All-State in more than 30 years and just the second ever when the Pennsylvania Football Writers Class 5A All-State team was announced today.

He is joined by three Exeter players: Running back Leo Brown, lineman Joel Ummarino, and defensive back Jayden Ware. That gives Exeter 15 All-State selections over the last five years.

Small followed up his record-breaking junior season by rushing for 1,766 yards, scoring 26 touchdowns, and averaging 7.4 per carry. He topped 200 yards three times, with high of 301.

Small rushed for a program-record 2,051 yards last season; his two-year total of 3,817 yards is a Berks County record for consecutive season.

Brown rushed for 2,444 yards, breakingΒ the 42-year-old Berks County rushing record set by David Gilmore. He averaged 8.7 yards per carry and scored 29 TDs. He set a program record with 11 straight 100-yard games and had six games of 200-plus with season-high of 305 against unbeaten Conestoga Valley.

Brown was named Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Year.

The 6-3, 260-pound Ummarino, selected as an offensive lineman, was a standout on both sides of the line.

He had a 96% blocking grade with 45 pancakes and led the defense with 15 tackles for loss. He also had 7.5 sacks, 15 QB hurries, and a team-high three fumble recoveries.

The two-year captain was named Outstanding Lineman, Offensive Lineman of the Year, and Defensive Lineman of the Year in Section 2 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League and MikeDragoSports.com Berks County Lineman of the Year.

Ware, a 6-2, 165-pound senior, was selected as a defensive back. He was a three-way all-league pick as wide receiver, kick returner, and Defensive Back of the Year in Section 2 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.

The lock-down corner led the team with five interceptions, had three pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries. He averaged 24.5 yards on his team-leading 31 receptions, with nine TD catches. He was second on team with 11 TDs.

Small is Muhlenberg’s first two-time All-State pick since punter Zach Hoffman was selected in 1995 and 1996. Only three other Muhlenberg players have earned first-team All-State honors: Brandon Fox in 2005, Zach Duffy in 2012 and Brock Stoudt in 2014.

The 43-player team was selected by sportswriters across the state. Teams for Class 2A, 4A, and 6A will be announced Wednesday.
