Wilson pulls off huge comeback to stun Muhlenberg

Wilson stormed back from a 17-point deficit to record a much-needed victory, beating Muhlenberg 57-56 Thursday in a Berks Conference Division I-II crossover game at West Lawn.

The win comes three night after Wilson lost a 21-point lead in losing to Exeter 48-47.

The two-time defending county champion Bulldogs (1-3, 5-4) had opened league play with three straight losses and looked like they were headed for a fourth when the Division 2-leading Muhls (2-1, 6-2) went up 40-23 early in the third quarter.

Keegan Coldren responded with the first of his four 3-pointers to ignite the comeback. He finished with a team-high 12 points and gave Wilson the lead for good at 54-51 with a 3-pointer with 1:56 left.

The Muhls pulled within 57-56 when Luis Valentine hit the back end of a two-shot foul with 6.5 seconds left.

The Muhls had one last chance but Eric Branch was off the mark with shot at the buzzer after driving the length of the court.

Muhlenberg missed 12 free throws and was just 5-of-14 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.

All-Berks center Edwin Suarez had a dominating performance for the Muhls, with a game-high 27 points and 16 rebounds. He was the only Muhlenberg player to make a field goal in the second half, when he scored 20 of their 27 points.

The victory was the 362nd for Matt Coldren, tying the Wilson record set by Reggie Weiss. Coldren played for and coached with Weiss.
