Berks Catholic will be the No. 1 seed in Class 3A and it, along with Twin Valley, Wyomissing, and Wilson, will receive first-round byes when the District 3 football tournament opens Friday.

Three teams open play Friday: Schuylkill Valley, Exeter, and Muhlenberg. Only the Eagles open at home.

Berks Catholic (8-2) is a top seed in the tournament for the first time since 2017, when it went on to win its third straight Class 4A championship.

The Saints secured the No. 1 seed in Class 3A with their overtime win over Annville-Cleona (8-2) Friday. The Saints will open at home Nov. 7 against either the No. 4 seed, Bermudian Springs (7-3), or No. 5 seed Big Spring (6-4).

In Class 6A, Wilson (8-2) is No. 4 and will host a quarterfinal Nov. 7 against No. 5 York High (6-3).

In Class 5A, Exeter (8-2) is ranked No. 7 and will open at home on Friday against No. 10 Lower Dauphin (7-3). Muhlenberg (8-2) dropped three spots with its loss to Conestoga Valley and is No. 9; opens at No. 8 Spring Grove (7-3).

In 4A, Twin Valley (10-0) is No. 3 and Wyomissing (9-1) is No. 4; they each open at home. The Raiders will play No. 6 West Perry (8-2) on Nov. 7. The Spartans play No. 5 Lampeter-Strasburg (7-3) Saturday, Nov. 8. Wyomissing ended the regular season Friday with a 46-7 win at Lampeter.

In 3A, Schuylkill Valley (5-5) will be the No. 6 seed and open on the road at No. 3 Trinity (7-3).

Wilson is making its 33rd district appearance and 18th in 19 seasons. The Bulldogs’ only miss during that stretch came in the COVID-truncated 2020 season, when playoff fields were reduced. They are 28-6 all-time at home.

Exeter reached the 5A championship game year, its third title-game appearance in four seasons. It won the title in 2021, beating Gov. Mifflin; it lost to Cocalico in the championship the following year.

Muhlenberg is back in the tournament for the first time since 2013.

Twin Valley returns to districts for the fifth straight season and will host a game for the third time.

Berks Catholic won its district opener last year at Biglerville 48-7 before losing at Bermudian Springs 42-25.

Schuylkill Valley is making its fourth straight district appearance; it once made five straight trips, from 2010-14.
