Players of the Week Ryan Rementer, Greyson Miller set tone for Raiders’ giant win

Even in the biggest games football still comes down to blocking and tackling.

Twin Valley did those better in its 28-6 domination of Wyomissing Saturday, in particular lineman Greyson Miller and linebacker/H-back Ryan Rementer, who share the Wyomissing Physical Therapy Player of the Week award.

Miller, a senior guard, earned a 90-percent blocking grade, had five pancake blocks, and received a rare 100-percent grade for effort — one of just three Raiders coach Brett Myers has doled out this season.

“Greyson is the model for our program when it comes down to workmanlike attitude,” Myers said. “It doesn’t matter who we’re playing, he’s always leading and he’s always leading by his work ethic. In the end it shows in his games.”

The 6-1, 265-pound Miller was one of the keys for an offense that ground out 279 rushing yards, including 196 in the second half. Drew Engle led the way with 199 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns; Lucas Myers ran for 82 yards and a pair of scores.

The unbeaten Raiders took over the game in the second half with a pair of 70-yard drives to pull away from a 7-6 halftime lead. They outscored the previously unbeaten Spartans 21-0 in the second half.

Ryan Rementer

Rementer was a key to that late push, moving into the lineup at H-back when Joey Buckley left the game with an ankle injury. He was on the field for Twin Valley’s last two scoring drives. He earned an 86-percent blocking grade.

“He did his thing,” Myers said. “He was our lead blocker for that whole fourth quarter; he didn’t shy away from it.”

Rementer, a 6-1, 200-pound senior, was also a key from his linebacker spot. He had seven solo tackles and six assists for a defensive unit that kept the Spartans out of the end zone and limited them to 38 second-half yards.

“He was in on 13 plays . . . had two QB pressures . . . one tackle for a loss,” said Myers. “What else can you ask for from your ‘Mike’ linebacker?”

As the Raiders’ ‘Mike’ linebacker, Rementer is stationed inside the box, which means he’s constantly taking on offensive linemen in order to get the ball. He’s done that well for a defense that has allowed the second-fewest points among all District 3 teams.

Greyson Miller

“He’s a physical guy who takes that stuff on and does a great job with it,” Myers said. “He’s so smart; he doesn’t miss a read. He’s got such good eye discipline that he’s always involved.”

Miller, an all-league defensive lineman as a junior, was a key run-stuffer from his spot at defensive tackle. He had six tackles to help the Raiders remain the Lancaster-Lebanon League’s top-rated unit in total defense.

“Greyson plays at a really high level,” Myers said. “He usually doesn’t come off the field; he’s one of the few guys we don’t have rotations for, and he embraces that.

“If there was ever a lunch pail guy, he’s it. He doesn’t care about credit; he’s constantly giving his teammates credit. Saturday he did the same thing: He dominated his position.”
