The Mustangs (1-4, 3-5) came into the game losers of four straight. From start to finish they looked dominant in every fashion.

After forcing Lebanon (0-5, 0-8) to turn its first possession over on downs, Patrick Steuer burned the Cedars defense. He rushed for a 59-yard touchdown on the first snap.

Steuer flashed again, intercepting Lebanon quarterback Anthony Klish inside the Cedars 25. He scored his second touchdown putting the Mustangs up 14-0.

Lebanon was forced to punt on its third drive, but running back/punter Cameron Buchmoyer was tackled at the 3-yard line before he could even get the punt off.

Lebron Leaf practically walked into the end zone to extend the Mustangs lead to 21-0.

By the end of the half, it was 35-0 with Steuer and Leaf each scoring another touchdown.

The Mustangs defense was stout throughout the first 24 minutes. They allowed just 35 total yards in the first half and only two plays of 10 or more yards. Lebanon crossed the 50-yard line just once in the first half.

Gov. Mifflin never allowed Anthony Klish to be comfortable in the pocket. They forced him to scramble often, as well as sacking him four times.

Leaf opened the second half by completing just his fourth pass of the night as he connected with Joe Murray for a 15-yard touchdown, capping off a 65-yard drive.

Late in the third quarter Lucas Kreider got some snaps and made the most of them. On his first carry, he went 46 yards to the house, ramping the score to 49-0.

Elijah Read scored the Cedars lone touchdown of the game midway through the fourth quarter. He picked up a fumbled snap and ran it two yards in for the score.

The backfield duo of Steuer and Leaf combined for a total of 263 total yards and five combined touchdowns on the game.

Star of the game

Mifflin junior Patrick Steuer made his presence known on both sides of the ball. Not only did he rack up 135 rushing yards with three touchdowns, he also had an interception.

Key statistic

The Mustangs, last in the league in total defense, allowed only 132 total yards.

Quotable

“I’m just so proud of the kids and the coaches. We talked a lot this week about how we stay together as a team with our senior leadership, how our coaches stayed positive. We continued to coach, stay positive and the kids stuck together . . . after a long four weeks.” — Gov. Mifflin coach Nick Morrissey.

Quotable

“I thought the defensive line played really well. We were in the backfield all night causing disruption and on the backend we did enough to cover them. (Malachi Briddell) is a really talented football player and he burned us last year. Overall, (we) played as a unit.” — Gov. Mifflin coach Nick Morrissey.

Quotable

“I was seeing my linemen doing their job and seeing the right holes. It feels great (to win a dominant game). We’re going to use the momentum to win the next few games.” — Gov. Mifflin running back/cornerback Patrick Steuer.

Up next

The Mustangs travel to Elizabethtown next week.
