MYERSTOWN — Twin Valley opened the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 4 football schedule the same way it played its non-league schedule, with a lopsided victory.

Going on the road to face another team of Raiders, Twin Valley posted a 60-0 victory at Elco, after averaging a score of 59-13 in the first three weeks of the season. It was the third straight game Twin Valley has scored 60 or more points, a first for the program.

Ben Grundy opened the game by returning the kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown, giving Twin Valley (4-0) a 7-0 lead after just 11 seconds.

But the dominance was set up on the following kickoff, when Twin Valley successfully recovered a surprise onside kick. That led to a six-play, 43-yard touchdown drive, capped off by a Drew Engle 3-yard scoring run.

One kickoff return for a score and a successful onside kick would be a banner day for most special team units but Twin Valley was not close to done. Grundy added a 45-yard punt return to put the visitors up 28-0 with 7:52 left in the second quarter. Just 23 seconds later, Engle had a 61-yard kickoff return for a touchdown off a free kick to make it 37-0.

Engle also had a 30-yard punt return on another free kick later in the second quarter. Nate Shaffer was 7-for-7 on extra points, and Josiah Horst made his one conversion attempt.

Elco’s special teams nearly answered with a score of its own but Dale Kohr’s return was interrupted by an unforced fumble at midfield. Kohr got it back but lost the opportunity to get into Twin Valley territory, and the second-quarter clock ran out on Elco’s possession.

Without getting a touch in the second half, Engle rushed for 80 yards on nine carries, including two touchdown runs, to go along with kickoff return score.

The whole Twin Valley defense could be considered stars, holding Elco to 66 yards on 35 snaps.

Twin Valley will try to hit the midway point of the regular season unbeaten when it hosts Octorara next Thursday. Elco (1-3) travels to face unbeaten Wyomissing next Saturday.
