A (not-so) new Fearless Friday Football Forecast champion is crowned

You can call Matt Hagy the “Finisher.”

Dude knows how to play it down the stretch. One year after a near-perfect playoff run carried him to his first Fearless Friday Football Forecast championship he enjoyed another big postseason to make it back-to-back titles.

Matt Hagy

Hagy closed with 14-0 card in Week 14 – the only clean slate among the 12 Forecasters — and a 45-4, four-week playoff run to edge runner-up Jeff Reinhart by three points. Hagy entered the postseason in second place, two points off the lead.

His 161-22 final record was eight wins better than last year’s top score.

Each week throughout the season, through the end of the district playoffs, MikeDragoSports.com staff writers, photographers, and contributors, along with writers from football partner LNP/Lancasteronline,  picked all the Berks games, along with other selected Lancaster-Lebanon League and district playoff games.

Hagy, a Douglassville native and graduate of Daniel Boone, has been covering football for MikeDragoSports.com since its inception, in 2021. He is currently Director of Athletic Communications at Ursinus College; prior to that he held the same position at Albright College.

Last year he ended the two-year mini dynasty of Coach Joe Mays, who won the inaugural crown in 2022 and shared first place the next season with Sam Cavalieri. Mays, sad to say, appears to have lost a step; he finished well off the pace this year.

In 2024, Hagy went an astounding 40-1 during the postseason, coming from just off the lead to clip Reinhart at the wire, 153-152. Hagy was perfect over the final three weeks, going 13-0, 8-0, and 8-0. No Forecaster has ever done anything like that before; none likely ever will going forward.

The top finisher gets a party hoagie from Mays Sandwich Shop. After seeing Hagy produce an Ohtani-like performance at the staff postseason gathering at Shady Maple earlier this month – he crushed all five major food groups – it’s safe to say that hoagie has no chance.
