Exeter, Wyomissing, Schuylkill Valley to open among state’s top teams

Wyomissing and Exeter will open the season where they finished it last year, ranked among the Top 10 teams in the state in their classification by PennLive.com.
Schuylkill Valley not only joins them but has the distinction of being the highest-ranked Class 3A team in District 3, at No. 10.
The Spartans, who went 10-3 last year and reached the District 3 Class 4A championship game, open at No. 5 in that class. The Eagles, who went 12-2 and reached the District 3 Class 5 title game, open at No. 6 in that class.
They are joined by two other Lancaster-Lebanon League teams: Lampeter-Strasburg, No. 8 in Class 4A, and Lancaster-Catholic, No. 10 in Class 2A.
The top-ranked teams in the four highest classifications are the defending state champs: St. Joseph’s Prep in Class 6A, Bishop McDevitt in 5A, Bonner-Prendergast in 4A and Northwestern Lehigh in 3A. Seton-LasSalle is No. 1 in Class 2A; Fort Cherry is No. 1 in 1A.
There are two District 3 teams in the Class 6A Top 10: defending champ Harrisburg at No. 3 and Central York at No. 10.
Exeter and McDevitt are the only District 3 teams ranked in Class 5A. Wyomissing and Lampeter-Strasburg, which met for the district championship last year, are the only District 3 teams ranked in Class 4A.
