Madyx Gruber, Luke Spotts honored by Touchdown Club

Wilson’s Madyx Gruber and Schuylkill Valley’s Luke Spotts were honored by the Manheim Touchdown Club during Friday’s Tri-County All-Star Game.

Gruber shared the Lancaster-Lebanon League’s Big School Player of the Year award; Spotts shared the Small School Player of the Year.

Gruber, a quarterback and defensive back, shared the Big School award with Manheim Township’s Declan Clancy and Lampeter-Strasburg’s Caileb Howse.

Spotts, a tight end and linebacker, shared the Small School award with Annville-Cleona’s Jonathan Shay.

Gruber, an All-State pick in Class 6A, passed for 2,058 yards and 24 with a 165.6 passing efficiency rating and rushed for 702 yards and nine TDs in leading the Bulldogs to an 11-2 record, the Section 1 title, and the District 3 championship game. He led Berks defensive players with five interceptions.

Spotts, an All-State pick in Class 3A, led the 37-team league with 60 receptions, most ever by a tight end in Berks County history. He also led the league with 975 receiving yards and 10 TD catches and led the Panthers to the Section 5 title, the first outright championship in program history.

Gruber plans to attend Widener and play basketball. Spotts plans to attend West Chester University and walk on to the football team.

Manheim Central’s Tyler Groff was named Lineman of the Year. Twin Valley’s Carter Faubel was a finalist, along with Thomas Dattoli of Cocalico.

Lampeter-Strasburg’s Peter Fiorelli was named Special Teams Player of the Year. Conrad Weiser’s Alex Malone and Schuylkill Valley’s Reese Wamsher were among the finalists, along with Braden Eppinette of Cocalico.

Exeter’s Jayden Zandier and Cedar Crest’s Jack Waranavage were finalists for the Big School award.

Schuylkill Valley’s Logan Nawrocki was a finalist for the Small School award.
