Raiders’ Evan Myers, Carter Faubel, Spartans’ Justice Hardy make All-State

Evan Myers didn’t have to look far for inspiration when he was a kid. Twin Valley’s record-setting quarterback, Zach Gardner, lived just up the block.
Myers watched him throw touchdown passes and dreamed of his chance to do the same.
And he has.
Myers has grown into the guy other kids in the Twin Valley football community want to be. He’s put up historic passing and rushing numbers, led the Raiders to heights they had never known, and Saturday became the first quarterback in program history to earn All-State recognition.
He’s joined on the 44-player squad by teammate Carter Faubel, a senior selected as a defensive lineman, and Wyomissing’s Justice Hardy, a multi-talented sophomore picked as an Athlete.
They are among eight players selected from the Lancaster-Lebanon League, five from Lampeter-Strasburg, including Player of the Year Caileb Howse, a quarterback and defensive back selected as an Athlete. He’s joined by teammates Carson Zook, a senior offensive lineman; Emory Fluhr, a senior linebacker; Dominic Brown, a senior running back and linebacker selected as an Athlete, and junior placekicker Peter Fiorello.
Jack Muldoon, whose Bonner-Prendergast team beat Lampeter 40-14 in the PIAA Class 4A championship game, is Coach of the Year.
Shamokin and Bonner-Prendergast each also had five All-State selections; Jersey Shore had four.
The All-State team for Class 6A will be announced later today; the Class 2A team was announced earlier today. Teams for 1A, 3A, and 5A were announced Friday.
The teams are selected by a vote of sportswriters across the state.
Myers passed for 1,598 yards and 21 touchdowns and ran for 965 yards and 14 TDs in leading the Raiders to 10-3 finish; their only losses were to Lampeter-Strasburg and Wyomissing, each of which ended the season ranked among the Top 5 teams in the state. The Raiders, after a 5-0 start, reached No. 1 in the state rankings for the first time in program history.

Myers became just the second Berks passer to throw for 1,000 yards in four straight seasons and finished his career with 5,772 passing yards, second-most in Berks history. He got the start at quarterback in Twin Valley’s season-opener in in 2021 and threw an 80-yard touchdown on the Raiders’ first snap.
Myers was home-schooled in football. From the time he was old enough to hold a football he was a ball boy for his dad Brett’s Middletown team. He was always next to his dad when the coach was breaking down film at home; by the time he was 10 he was on the sidelines charting plays on an iPad.
“He’s different when it comes to that kind of stuff,” said Brett Myers, Twin Valley’s head coach the past three seasons. “He’s been that way forever.”
Faubel, a 6-1, 260-pound two-way lineman, filled a huge need for the Raiders, who graduated a pair of All-State linemen, Paul McClune and Ean Winchester. He transferred in from Delaware Valley, where he was a two-way all-league lineman on the District 2 Class 5A championship team.
He showed right away that he could be a dominant force when he won the bench press competition at the Chris Nunn Memorial Berks Football Combine in the spring. He graded out as the top offensive lineman for a team that ranked No. 6 in the league in total yards and No. 2 in scoring during the regular season.
“He graded out a winner every week,” Brett Myers said.
Faubel led the Raiders with 102 tackles and 5.5 sacks and led Berks with 26 tackles for loss. He was named Outstanding Lineman of the Year and Defensive Lineman of the Year in Section 4 Berks County Defensive Lineman of the Year.
Hardy, a 5-9 sophomore, was a true triple threat for the Spartans, earning all-league first-team honors as a kick returner and cornerback and leading the team with 15 touchdowns.
“When you give him the ball you always think you’ve got a shot (at scoring),” said Wyomissing coach Bob Wolfrum. “He’s hard to bring down one-on-one.”
Hardy lined up as both halfback and wide receiver, led the team in receptions, averaged 9.3 yards per carry and was second on the team with 779 rushing yards.
“Any time there was a contested ball he came down with it,” Wolfrum said. “He’s a heckuva athlete. He can run, jump, all of that stuff.”
Hardy had a breakout game in a 34-24 win over Twin Valley as he rushed for a career-high 196 yards on 16 carries with a pair of scores and had a pair of critical receptions on the way to a program-record 297 yards from scrimmage.
He was the top cover corner for a team ranked No. 5 (out of 37) in the league in total defense, had two interceptions, a Pick-6, a punt block, and a forced fumble.
Hardy is one of just five sophomores on the team.
Howse threw for 1,610 yards and 18 TDs and didn’t throw an interception until the state title game (when he had three)). He rushed for 1,444 yard and 20 TDs.
He intercepted six passes and returned four for touchdowns; he had three defensive touchdowns in a win over Elco.
