Scouts’ Donovan Gingrich, Evan Rittle score big Section 3 honors

2024 Berks football coverage presented by

Utilities Employees Credit Union

Donovan Gingrich and Evan Rittle make a nice pass-catch combination; the Conrad Weiser seniors hooked up 87 times over the past three seasons.

They do more than that, though. Gingrich also punts. Rittle long-snaps and plays defensive back. And they were critical pieces to the Scouts’ Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 championship season.

Tuesday Gingrich was named the section’s Outstanding Back of the Year and Offensive Back of the Year and Rittle was named Wide Receiver of the Year. Each earned two spots on the all-league team.

They represented four of Weiser’s section-leading 10 first-team all-league picks. They’re joined by teammates Evan Miller, a senior tight end; Kaleb Holl, a senior guard; Alex Malone, a senior placekicker; Eugene Booth, a junior interior defensive lineman; Dylan Parr, a junior defensive back; and Ashton Kiebach, a senior defensive end.

Alan Moyer was named Coach of the Year after leading the Scouts to a perfect regular season.

Cocalico was next with eight first-team picks.

Gingrich and Rittle were among eight two-way first-team picks. Last year Rittle was a three-way first-team picking, adding defensive back. He was selected to the second team as a defensive back this season.

Rittle is one of just two two-way repeat picks, along with Garden Spot’s Trent Hoober, a wide receiver and defensive back.
