Wyomissing and Bishop McDevitt are each making their 21st appearance in a district championship game tonight; only Manheim Central (24) has appeared in more.

Bishop McDevitt and Exeter, which meet tonight for the District 3 Class 5A championship, have each gone on the road and taken out unbeaten teams the past two weeks. That’s rare.
The sixth-seeded Crusaders won 42-7 at Conrad Weiser and 26-14 at Mechanicsburg; the eighth-seeded Eagles won 24-21 at New Oxford and 48-14 at Conestoga Valley.
In the first eight Class 5A championships (since the PIAA expanded to six classes for 2016), no No. 6 or 8 seed has won a championship. Cocalico, at No. 12 in 2022, is the lowest-seeded team to win in 5A.

Wyomissing has won 13 consecutive District 3 playoff games, the longest active streak. Bishop McDevitt is next at 12. Bishop McDevitt owns the record with 25 straight wins (from 2010-16).

Harrisburg has won four of the first eight District 3 Class 6A titles (since the PIAA expanded to six classes for 2016); no other team has won more than one.
Wilson won the first 6A title, in 2016; Manheim Township, Central Dauphin and Central York also won that title. Harrisburg has won the 6A title in 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2018; it won the 5A title in 2016.

Wyomissing is making its 19th straight appearance in the District 3 Tournament, the longest active streak; Lampeter-Strasburg is next at 16.

This season marks the sixth time Berks has landed three teams in district championship games, and the first time since 2021 when Wilson (6A), Exeter (5A), Gov. Mifflin (5A), and Wyomissing (3A) each made it. That’s the only time four Berks have played for a title in the same year.
Berks has never had three district champs in the same season.

Harrisburg has been a nemesis for Wilson, ending the Bulldogs’ season four times in the last six years. One of those, in 2021, was in a championship game.
Overall the Cougars own a 6-4 series lead and are 5-2 vs. the Bulldogs in the postseason. Harrisburg has won four straight in the series; Wilson’s last win came in 2015.

Wyomissing has the most district championship among Berks teams, with 12. The Spartans have also won five straight, the only Berks team to ever do that. Berks Catholic is the only Berks team to reach the title game in seven straight seasons (2013-19).

Bishop McDevitt can tie Manheim Central for the most District 3 titles (18) if it beats Exeter tonight. Wyomissing can move into a tie for fourth, with Cumberland Valley, if it beats Lampeter-Strasburg tonight and earns its 13th championship.

Wilson and Wyomissing have each won 44 district playoff games, tied for fourth behind Bishop McDevitt 68, Manheim Central (63) and Cumberland Valley (52).
