Eagles soar into state rankings after taking out unbeaten Buckskins

Exeter is back in the state rankings.
All it took was a 48-14 spanking of unbeaten and ninth-ranked Conestoga Valley, on the Buckskins’ home field, to see the Eagles land at No. 6 in the PennLive.com Class 5A rankings.
It’s the Eagles’ first appearance in the Top 10 since late last season, when they rose to No. 3 following an 8-0 start. A Week 9 loss to Conestoga Valley knocked them out of the Top 10.
The Eagles were headed back in that direction this season after opening with eight straight wins before a loss to Conestoga Valley knocked them out of consideration.
Exeter went from not being listed as a Team To Watch halfway up the Class 5A rankings.
Wilson and Wyomissing made small moves up this week.
The Bulldogs moved up two spots to No. 5, one slot ahead of the team they meet in Saturday’s District 3 Class 6A championship game – Harrisburg.
Wyomissing moved up one spot in Class 4A, to No. 4, one slot behind the team they meet in Saturday’s District 3 championship game – unbeaten Lampeter-Strasburg.
Twin Valley, which saw its season end with a 31-13 loss to Lampeter-Strasburg, remains in the rankings as a 4A honorable mention.
The biggest shakeup in the rankings came in Class 5A where No. 1 Upper St. Clair dropped six spots after a 7-3 loss to Peters Township, which moved up one spot to No. 3. No. 2 Pine-Richland takes over at No. 1 – at least for now. Peters Township and Pine-Richland play this week for the WPIAL championship.
