Wilson has not gone three straight years without winning a Lancaster-Lebanon League section title since 1982-84, the final year of John Gurski’s coaching tenure and the first two years of Gerry Slemmer’s.
The Bulldogs won 14 Section 1 titles in Doug Dahms’ first 17 seasons but have finished second in each of the past two seasons; they need a win Friday over Manheim Township to claim the title.
4
Gov. Mifflin and Ephrata, now rivals in Section 2 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League, play Friday for the first time in 21 years.
The series, which debuted in 1985, is tied 6-6-1. The Mustangs haven’t beaten the Mounts since 2001.
Ephrata moved from Section 3 to Section 2 for this season.
5
Six of the nine teams which won or shared Lancaster-Lebanon League titles in 2023 are out of the running heading into the final week of the regular season: Manheim Central (Section 2); Ephrata, Garden Spot, and Twin Valley (Section 3 tri-champs); Cocalico (Section 4); and Annville-Cleona (a tri-champ in Section 5).
Manheim Township can repeat as Section 1 champ win a win over Wilson, or share the title with a loss. Schuylkill Valley, which shared the Section 5 title last year with Lancaster-Catholic and Annville-Cleona, has clinched at least a tie; it will be the outright champ if it beats the Crusaders or share it if it loses.
