Twin Valley’s historic stay atop the state rankings is now history.

The Raiders, who held the No. 1 spot in Class 4A for three straight weeks, has been dropped completely from the rankings after two straight losses, the latest 62-14 by state-ranked Lampeter-Strasburg.

Exeter, which lost 28-27 to Conestoga Valley when it’s bid for a two-point conversion in the final seconds was denied, dropped out of the Class 5A rankings. The Eagles had been listed as a Team To Watch for seven straight weeks.

Wilson, which entered the Class 6A rankings last week at No. 10, moved up one spot. They’ll play at No. 5 Manheim Township Friday.

Wyomissing remained No. 2 in 4A; it plays No. 4 Lampeter-Strasburg, which moved up one spot, Saturday at Bob Wolfrum Field.

There were two major upsets last week. Pine-Richland, No. 1 in 5A, lost 28-21 to North Allegheny, which is a 6A Team to Watch. Aliquippa, No. 1 in 4A, was beaten 36-35 when No. 7 Montour scored a touchdown and two-point conversion in the final minute. Montour moved up to No. 5.

Chester, long known as a state basketball powerhouse, has ascended to No. 1 for the first time, in Class 5A.
