Evan Myers is about to join an elite club of dual-threat quarterbacks.
The Twin Valley senior needs 35 rushing yards to become just the sixth Berks quarterback to both run and pass for 2,000 yards in his career. The Raiders play Friday at Lampeter-Strasburg.
Myers, a four-year starter, already ranks No. 3 on Berks’ all-time passing list with 5,284 yards; only Daniel Boone’s Chris Bokosky and Wilson’s Chad Henne have thrown for more.
He has rushed for 1,935 yards.
He’s about to add his name to a list that was initiated in 2008 by Boyertown’s Dave Crognale, who ran for 2,687 yards and passed for 3,899.
Schuylkill Valley’s Derek Gaul joined the group in 2010; Jan Johnson of Gov. Mifflin and Chase Yocum of Exeter followed in 2014. Brandon Unterkoefler of Exeter is the last to do it, in 2017.
Once he makes the list Myers will go right to the top; he already has 7,249 combined yards from scrimmage, more than any others to accomplish 2,000-2,000.
Myers has a chance to join another special group: Berks quarterbacks with 1,000 yards rushing and passing in the same season. It’s only been done seven times in Berks history.
Myers has rushed for a career-high 725 yards in eight games and has topped 100 yards four times. Twin Valley has at least three games remaining, more if it wins in the postseason.
Unterkoefler is the last to accomplish the feat, in 2017; he ran for 1,127 yards and passed for 1,381.

Unterkoefler is the only player to go 1,000/1,000 twice; he also did it as a junior in 2016.
The others: Crognale in 2008, Schuylkill Valley’s Derek Gaul in 2010, Conrad Weiser’s Mike Oliveto in 2010, Daniel Boone’s Tommy Bodolus in 2011, and Exeter’s Chase Yocum in 2014.
Bodolus, with 3,152 yards, has the highest combined total for any Berks quarterback; he ran for 1,356 yards and passed for 1,796 yards. Bodolus owns the Berks single-season rushing record for quarterbacks.
The last Berks quarterback to crack 1,000 rushing yards was Wilson’s Brad Hoffman, in 2021.
Conrad Weiser’s Logan Klitsch owns the Berks record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback; he scored 20 TDs in 2021.
