Patrick O’Brien, a cornerback on Wilson’s 2008 District 3 Class AAAA championship football team, is one of five former athletes set for induction into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday.
The Class of 2024 also includes Avery Marz, Alexandra (Rockett) Miller, Brittany Smith, and Jessie Wallace. They will be recognized at halftime of the Bulldogs’ football game vs. Hempfield at Gurski Stadium.
O’Brien, a team captain as a senior in 2009, was named Berks Defensive Back of the Year and played on two Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 championship teams. The Bulldogs went 14-1 and 11-2 his final two seasons.
O’Brien received the Gerald Slemmer Award and the “Play of the Year” award. He wrestled, was a sprinter on the track team and won eight letters.
Marz, a 2014 grad, was the Berks girls basketball Player of the Year and an All-Berks pick in field hockey. She went on to play basketball at St. Joseph’s University.
Miller, a 2014 grad, led Wilson’s swimming and diving team to a PIAA championship in 2012 and was a two-time PIAA champion. She went on to swim at the University of Indiana.
Smith, a 2013 grad, was an All-State pick in softball and an All-Berks selection in field hockey. She led Wilson to its first Berks softball championship and was Berks Player of the Year. In hockey she led the Bulldogs to two county titles.
Wallace, a 2014 grad, was Wilson’s Athlete of the Year after excelling in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. She had over 1,000 kills in volleyball, 1,000 points in basketball, and was a two-time district champ in the discus. She went on to play basketball at Rider and later threw the discus at the University of Pittsburgh.
