Mifflin-Muhlenberg postponed due to ‘threat of violence’; will play Sunday

The Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 2 football game between Gov. Mifflin and Muhlenberg, scheduled for Friday, was postponed due to the threat of gun violence.
Muhlenberg superintendent Dr. Joseph E. Macharola, in a statement issued Friday afternoon, said the district learned of an “unsubstantiated threat of gun violence” and the game was immediately postponed.
The game was scheduled to be played at Albright’s Shirk Stadium; Muhlenberg’s home stadium is not available for use due to safety concerns with the newly installed turf.
The game will be played Sunday at 2 at Gov. Mifflin Stadium.
This is believed to be the first time a Berks football game was postponed or cancelled due to threat of violence.
The Reading Police Department is investigating the threat, according to a statement on the Gov. Mifflin School District website. According to that statement, officials at Albright made the decision to postpone the game.
According to the Muhlenberg statement, the threats were “allegedly made by the way of social media or another type of communication.”
“We will never take a chance with the lives of our children, young adults, staff, faculty and community,” Macharola’s statement read.
