2023 Berks football coverage presented by

Utilities Employees Credit Union

1

Conrad Weiser’s Donovan Gingrich last week became the first Berks quarterback on record to complete all of his passes, with 11 or more attempts, in a single game.

The senior went 11-for-11 for 222 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-7 win over Fleetwood.

Two other Berks passers have gone 10-for-10 in a game: Muhlenberg’s Antonieo Dominquez, in 2013 against Shippensburg, and Boyertown’s Mike Reish, in 1999 vs. Conrad Weiser.

Several quarterbacks have gone 11-for-12 or 10-for-11.

Gingrich’s passing efficiency rating for the game: 329.5.  He is ranked third in the Lancaster-Lebanon League this season in passing efficiency at 212.4.

Evan Rittle caught six of those 11 passes, including TDs of 70 and 34 yards.

Gov. Mifflin and Muhlenberg have been league rivals for much of the last 75 years, first in the Tri-County League, then in Section 1 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League and the Berks Football League, and now in Section 2 of the L-L.

The Muhls haven’t won in the series since 2003 and haven’t won a league match-up against the Mustangs since 1975.

Mifflin has won 20 straight in the series and leads 45-18-2.

Muhlenberg’s last win in the series came in 2003 when it stopped a late two-point bid by the Mustangs and held on for a 14-13 victory.

Twin Valley is ranked No. 1 among 37 teams in the Lancaster-Lebanon League in both total offense and total defense.

The unbeaten Raiders are averaging 403.7 yards per game on offense, just ahead of No. 2 Wilson (383.7).

The Raiders are allowing just 127.7 yards per game; Conrad Weiser is No. 2 at 151.2. Twin Valley is the only team in the league to have allowed fewer than 200 rushing yards.

Twin Valley was No. 1 in the league in total offense (448.0) during the regular season last year.

Kutztown snapped a 14-game losing streak to Hamburg last year, pulling off a 35-34 upset when Brenden Ackley scored with 1:41 remaining and Ethan Lafferty ran for the go-ahead two-point conversion.

The Cougars trailed by 21 points at halftime but held the Hawks scoreless in the second half.

They meet for the 49th time tonight at Hamburg.

Hamburg has dominated the series, winning 37-of-48 games. The Cougars will be trying to win back-to-back games in the series for the first time since 2003-04.

Wilson owns a 20-game winning streak against Cedar Crest and has won 50 of the 55 meetings, with one tie.

Cedar Crest’s last win in the series came in 2001, when sophomore Chad Henne was the Bulldogs quarterback. Two years later Henne threw for 270 first-half yards in a 54-0 win over the Falcons.

Cornwall High, the forerunner of Cedar Crest, met Wilson nine times between 1956-1964. Wilson won seven of those meetings.

Combined, Wilson leads the series 57-6-1.
