Body Zone Physical Therapy Defensive Player of the Week: Panthers’ Logan Cammauf

Kutztown’s grinding Power-T offensive can be a challenge to stop. It keeps opposing defenses on the field for long stretches, attempting to wear them out.
The Cougars ran the ball 46 times Friday against Schuylkill Valley. Panthers linebacker Logan Cammauf seemed to be in on most of those plays, helping hold Kutztown to just one touchdown through the first 3 ½ quarters of a 50-24 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 5 victory.
Cammauf was in on 17 tackles, with three tackles for loss, and has earned Body Zone Physical Therapy Defensive Player of the Week. He also had a quarterback hurry and a fumble recovery.
“He was all over the place,” said Schuylkill Valley coach Bruce Harbach. “He was just flying around the field.”
Cammauf, a 6-foot, 170-pound junior, has been doing those kinds of things for the past two seasons. He saw time on special teams and at outside linebacker as a freshman and moved into the starting lineup last season at inside linebacker, leading the team with 94 tackles.
He’s again the Panthers’ No. 1 defensive stopper with a whopping 68 tackles in four games – 30 more stops than his team’s No. 2 tackler.

“His quickness and his ability read offenses is phenomenal,” said Harbach. “The past couple weeks he’s been getting 15, 16 tackles a game. Pound for pound he’s one of the stronger kids on the team. He’s naturally strong.”
Cammauf is also one of the best athletes at his school.
He played in all 22 basketball games for the Panthers as a sophomore and led the team in free throw shooting at 79.3 percent.
In track and field he earned District 3 medals in each of the three jumping events, including a silver medal in the long jump. He qualified for the PIAA Championships as both a freshman and sophomore.
He has all-around skills on the football field, too. He is the starting fullback on offense and has played on all the special teams; currently he’s being utilized on the punt return and punt coverage teams.
“He’s a fine football player, both sides of the ball,” Harbach said. “He blocks very well – he’s one of our best blockers on the perimeter — he runs hard, and he is a hard hitter.”
Cammauf was named Defensive Player of the Week last season after he had 22 tackles in a key Section 5 win at Annville-Cleona.
“I noticed him in junior high, how aggressive he was leading our junior high team,” Harbach said.
Cammauf is the first Schuylkill Valley player selected for the award this season. Last year four were Panthers were selected: Cammauf, Luke Spotts, Dominic Giuffre and Colby Crills.
