Five Fast Friday Football Facts for Week 4

2024 Berks football coverage presented by

1

Muhlenberg and Lebanon meet for the 10th time Friday.

They were Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 rivals from 1975-81 before Muhlenberg left to join the Inter-County League.

They played for the first time in 41 years in 2022, when Muhlenberg returned to the Lancaster-Lebanon League and the two were paired in Section 2.

The Cedars have struggled for years to be competitive and are going through one of the darkest periods in their history. They have lost 35 straight games, their last win coming in the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

2

Logan Nawrocki last week became the fourth quarterback in Schuylkill Valley history to top 3,000 career passing yards.

The senior, three-year starter has thrown for 3,095 yards and is within range of Kyle Beissel’s career record of 3,749 yards, set from 2011-12.

Jeff Harner (3,717) and Matt Korn (3,549) are the Panthers’ other 3,000-yard passers.

Only 10 Berks passers have thrown for 4,000 yards, including Twin Valley’s Evan Myers, a senior headed for 5,000.

3

Kutztown will be looking for its first win over Schuylkill Valley since 2004 when they meet Friday in Leesport.

The Panthers have won 15 straight in the series and lead it 34-9. The Cougars’ last win came in 2008.

Schuylkill won the first seven meetings of the series, which kicked off in 1976.

4

Just three of the 22 Class 6A teams in District 3 are unbeaten through three weeks: Manheim Township, C.D. East and Dallastown.

Wilson, despite a loss last week at Nazareth, is No. 5 in the power ratings; the top 10 qualify, with the top six receiving first-round byes.

Last season eight teams qualified in Class 6A, with no byes but an open week between the end of the regular season and the start of the district tournament.

5

Reese Wamsher last week became the fifth different Schuylkill Valley kicker to hit a field goal from 40 yards or longer.

The program – and county – record belongs to Darin Tranquillo, who hit from 57 yards in 1998.

Other Panthers placekickers to reach 40 yards were Brooks Miller did it twice, hitting from 40 and 48 yards, Zach Heffner and Reese’s brother Noah, who did it in 2022.
