State rankings: Twin Valley moves up in 4A after throttling Selinsgrove

Twin Valley cracked the state Top Ten rankings last season for the first time. Now the Raiders are reaching rarified air.

They moved up three spots, to No. 4, in the PennLive.com Class 4A rankings, the highest spot ever for the program. They were at No. 7 in the preseason and remained their after a 42-16 opening-week win over Berks Catholic.

A dominating 40-10 win over Selinsgrove, coupled with a loss by No. 4 Wyomissing to The Haverford School, vaulted the Raiders to higher ground.

Twin Valley spent three weeks in the Top Ten last year, appearing at No. 10 after reaching 6-0 and 7-0, then reappearing in that spot four weeks later after opening districts with a win and reaching 10-1. It ended the season listed among five teams listed as Honorable Mention.

Overall, it spent 13 weeks in the rankings. Prior to last the Raiders had spent just one week in the rankings, as a Team To Watch.

Wyomisssing, meanwhile, slipped two spots to No. 5 after a 20-3 loss to Haverford School, a non-PIAA school which plays in the Inter-Academic League.

Wilson remained among the Teams To Watch in Class 6A after beating Plymouth-Whitemarsh. Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 rival Manheim Township jumped into the Top Ten, at No. 7, after knocking off Central York, which had been No. 8 in 6A.

Also, Manheim Central was dropped from the Top 10 in Class 5A after a 31-14 loss to Ephrata.
