Declan Clancy is not easy to bring down. He’s 5-10, 190 pounds, and gives his all on every down.

The Central York Panthers learned that the hard way Thursday as Clancy carried the ball for 29 times for 245 yards and two touchdowns to lead Manheim Township to a 28-10 non-league win at Neffsville.

“My goal is to run him until his tongue’s off,” said Manheim Township coach Mark Evans of Clancy. “He wants it. He kept saying to run this play, run that play. When you have that hot hand, you just have to roll with it.”

The Blue Streaks scored the game’s opening points midway through the first quarter when Carson Weisser connected with Charlie Hill on a slant. Hill ran 57 yards down the sideline to give his team the early lead. Manheim Township (2-0) led the rest of the way.

The Panthers (1-1) responded, putting together an impressive drive, but the Blue Streaks ultimately held strong, holding Central York to a 49-yard field goal. It was the Panthers’ only points until late in the fourth quarter.

The Blue Streaks leaned on Clancy on their next drive, and the senior running back delivered in a big way. He broke off a 23-yard touchdown run on a first-and-10 to put the Streaks up 14-3 at the half.

Clancy was only getting started. And so was Manheim Township.

Weisser found an open Lex Haberbosch over the middle on Township’s opening drive of the second half.

Haberbosch took it all the way inside the 2-yard line before bruising fullback Taylor Vellieux bulled in for the score.

Clancy added six points more with his second touchdown on the ensuing drive.

The Manheim Township defense followed suit with an equally impressive showing, combining for five sacks while holding a Central York team that scored 47 points a week ago to just 10.

The Panthers put together a late touchdown drive, but it was too late as the Blue Streaks leaned on Clancy to run out the clock.
