All-Berks Defense: Mack, Maddocks, Yocum among first-time picks
The All-Berks first-team defense is brand new. Only one player, Brett Organtini of Conrad Weiser, returns from last year’s unit and he’s at a different position.
It’s a talented group, for sure, with three Division I recruits: Wyomissing end Aiden Mack, who is committed to Richmond; Fleetwood cornerback Tanner Maddocks, committed to Villanova; and Exeter linebacker Ty Yocum, committed to Merrimack University.
Eight different teams are represented. Gov. Mifflin has the most picks, with three: End Nate Goodman, the Defensive Lineman of the Year; safety Eden Johnson, the Defensive Back of the Year; and linebacker Trey Rock.
Conrad Weiser, Wilson, and Wyomissing each have two selections.
There are just two juniors, both in the backfield: Cameron Jones of Wilson and Josiah Jordan of Berks Catholic.
Organtini was picked last year as a lineman; he was moved to linebacker this season and led the Scouts by averaging 14 tackles per game.
Maddocks led Berks in interceptions, with seven, and led the Tigers to seven wins and an Eastern Conference championship. He had three interceptions against Upper Perkiomen and returned two for touchdowns.
Mack and Wilson’s Jon Ramsey are the lone two-way picks; Mack was selected at tight end and Ramsey at guard.
The All-Berks team was selected in voting conducted by the members of the Berks County Football Coaches Association.
