Michael Glover has reached rare territory and may be on the verge of an unprecedented feat at Wilson.

The junior tight end is just the seventh player in program history to earn All-State status twice and could become the first named to the team three times.

Glover and teammate Jaiden Carpenter are part of the 41-player Pennsylvania Football Writers Class 6A All-State football team, selected by sportswriters across the state.

Michael Glover

Only one football player in Berks history has been named first-team All-State three times: Exeter lineman Michal Menet.

The 6-2, 219-pound Glover was named both Outstanding Lineman and Offensive Lineman of the Year in Section 1 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League after leading Wilson to 9-3 finish and to the district semifinals.

He added full-time duty at defensive end this season and excelled there as well, with 44 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, three pass breakups, and a fumble recovery returned for TD.

On offense he averaged 16.3 yards on 35 receptions, with seven TD catches. An outstanding blocker, he moved around to point of attack in the running game; he also averaged 7.4 yards on 29 carries.

Carpenter, a 6-foot, 145-pound senior, was an outstanding cover with track speed and was named Defensive Back of the Year in Section 1. He had seven pass breakups, two interceptions, and returned a fumble for TD. He was named all-league at wide receiver after averaging 19.1 yards on team-leading 35 receptions, with team-best 11 TDs.

Cam Jones, in 2021-22, was the last Wilson player to earn back-to-back All-State nods. The others: Iggy Reynoso, 2016-17; Ike Schannauer, 2014-15; Colton Weaver, 2007-08; Chad Henne, 2002-03; and Jim Fehling, 1970-71.

Gavin Sidwar of PIAA champ La Salle College was named Player of the Year after throwing for 3,400 yards and 40 touchdowns and completing 72 percent of his passes. The University of Missouri recruit didn’t throw an interception over the final nine weeks of the season.

La Salle’s Brett Gordon was named Coach of the Year after taking his team to a 13-1 finish and 34-20 win over Pittsburgh Central Catholic in the PIAA championship game.
