10 Questions with Wilson’s Jack Durning, presented by ATT Sports, Inc.

Each Wednesday MikeDragoSports.com goes one-on-one with a Berks football player to find out what’s on his mind — on the field and off.

Presented by ATT Sports, Inc.

Jack Durning, Wilson

Senior center

Q: What’s your favorite class in school right now?

Environmental Science with Coach (Doug) Dahms. About once a week the class gets to go to one of our local streams and run physical and chemical tests of the water, as well as look for organisms. The other week we went to Hawk Mountain and observed and identified migrating Raptors.

Q: Linemen rarely get to the touch the football. If you ever got your hands on it and scored how would you celebrate?

If it was a snow game I would definitely make some snow angels with the rest of the line. Other than that I’d probably just celebrate with the team.

Q: Which teammate would you least like to face in a live contact drill?

Jack Durning

Probably Dominic Memmo. He is so quick off the ball and has great footwork. He is definitely the fastest lineman I’ve faced.

Q: If they made a movie about your football team which actor would play the part of Coach Dahms?

Not too many people can match Coach Dahms’ eccentricity, so I think only he could play himself.

Q: Who’s the high school player you most looked up to when you were a kid?

Shane Dantzler (a Wilson running back). I remember going to a game with my dad and he told me to watch Dantzler. First play Dantzler ran the kickoff back for a touchdown.

Q: What’s your favorite play to run ?

Inside zone. We get good doubles to the linebackers, and it lets (Jadyn) Jones and Brad (Hoffman) get downhill.

Q: What’s the one thing your head coach has said that you think you’ll remember 20 years from now?

I remember when we were 2-3 heading into the league Coach ‘LCD’ (Brandon Dahms, the assistant offensive line coach) said if we won the league he would treat all of the line at Applebee’s. Motivating linemen with food — who would’ve guessed.

Q: What’s the most unique thing about playing football at Wilson?

Our offseason (training). We go to school an hour and a half early to get skill work and lift. In the winter, we stay after school and do plyometric workouts.

Q: If you could use a “lifeline” during a critical moment of a close game who would you call for help or advice?

My dad (Pat Durning). He keeps me level- headed.

Q: What’s your favorite football memory?

Beating Central Dauphin opening game this season. I remember we were so excited after winning, especially since everyone had C.D. blowing us out. The Applebee’s afterwards was a nice addition.
