Each Wednesday MikeDragoSports.com goes one-on-one with a Berks football player to find out what’s on his mind — on the field and off.
Presented by ATT Sports, Inc.
Jose Landrom, Gov. Mifflin
Senior guard/defensive tackle
Q: Linemen rarely get to the touch the football. If you ever got your hands on it and scored in a game, how would you celebrate?
I would do a split. I’m a pretty flexible guy. I did a split in the locker room after the Berks Catholic game during our little dance party.

Q: What’s the one super-power you wish you possessed?
Super speed. Honestly, it would just be amazing. I wouldn’t be late to anything and my 40 time would be insane.
Q: Who’s got the best nickname on your team?
(Senior tackle) Jamani Smith. His nickname is “Hot Sauce.” He got it ’cause he wore a hot sauce shirt to practice one day and the name stuck.
Q: You’re good at football. What sport are you the worst at?
Basketball. I’m just a really an aggressive person, thanks to football, so I’ve had my run-ins, hurting my friends by accident. I’m just too big.
Q: If you had a chance to play in the NFL, which coach – current or past – would you most want to play for?
Mike Tomlin. I grew up watching him and the Steelers. I am a Steelers fan and I would love to learn from him first-hand about the game.
Q: If you could play another position, which would it be?
Linebacker. I just really love hitting people. Playing on the line you never get to really hit people how you want.
Q: If you could hang out with any celebrity or pro athlete for the day, who would it be and what would you do?
Will Smith. He just seems like such a down-to-earth guy and overall good person.
Q: Other than your home field, where’s your favorite stadium to play?
Wilson’s Gurski Stadium. I love that atmosphere. The rivalry just makes the environment 100 times better.
Q: What’s best thing about the football tradition at Gov. Mifflin?
We are coached to be respectful and we are coached to be leaders. We might be crazy good on the field and you see all these individuals making these crazy plays but off the field we are a family. We always go out to eat and spend time with each other. We grew up with each other. The bond on this Mifflin team is like no other.
Q: If you could use a “lifeline” during a critical moment of a close game, who would you call for help or advice?
My uncle Jeremy (Hernandez). He’s always been a huge role model to me, so I know I can always depend on him.
