10 Questions with Exeter quarterback Mason Rotelli, presented by UECU

Mason Rotelli

Senior quarterback

Q: What was it like to be battling an athlete such as Joey Schlaffer for the starting quarterback position throughout the spring and summer?

It didn’t matter who I was competing against, my main focus was working hard every day and showing my coaches and teammates that I have what it takes to lead our offense. I felt good about my chances because of how hard I worked and the confidence I have in myself.

Q: When did Coach Bauer tell you you’d be starting the season opener against Daniel Boone?

Coach Bauer told me I was the starter on the practice field the Monday after our scrimmage; I was excited and ready to go!

(Editor’s note: Mason threw three touchdown passes and ran for a fourth score in the 35-0 win.)

Q: What’s the one TV show you watch regularly that might surprise people?

Mason Rotelli

I like watching Animal Planet because I enjoy wildlife.

Q: Who’s the high school player you most looked up to as a kid?

I looked up to Kolby Haag (Exeter’s starting quarterback in 2018).

Q: If you could be recruited by any colleges in the country, which ones would be at the top of the list?

Alabama and Georgia, because they have great programs and I would love to play in the SEC.

Q: Which of your teammates makes you laugh the most at practice?

(Senior linebacker) Jovan Hollis, because he always has a good joke.

Q: What’s your biggest motivation for success?

Not letting my team down.

Q: If you could use a “lifeline” during a critical moment of a close game, who would you call for help or advice?

My Dad.

Q: What’s the best fantasy football draft pick you made this season?

(Ravens quarterback) Lamar Jackson because he is bound for another good season.

Q: Where do you expect to be and what do you expect to be doing 10 years from now?

I hope to be teaching and coaching.
